Ragnar Berg

geschichte_foto_berg_140pxThe significance of a balanced acid-base management to the health of humans was postulated by the Swedish nutritional scientist Ragnar Berg as early as the beginning of the Twentieth century. He was one of the first to analyse the mineral content of foodstuffs and stimulants such as tea, alcohol, tobacco, etc. systematically and, as the director of the Johannesstadt hospital for nutritional physiology in Dresden, he researched the absorption and excretion of minerals in patients. He drew conclusions about metabolic disorders and faulty nutrition from the mineral balances established. At the same time, he determined that "consistently healthy human nutrition must contain a greater weight of compound (equivalent) anorganic bases than anorganic acids". In 1920, Ragnar Berg published the book 'Die Nahrungs- und Genussmittel' (Foodstuffs and Stimulants), which was regarded as a standard work in nutritional science for a long time. In it, he was one of the first to summarize the mineral content of foodstuffs. His seminal investigations led to the use of base mixtures of minerals as a complementary therapy for many diseases. Since then, the harmonization of the acid-base balance has been among the basic therapies in natural healing..

The history of Basica

geschichte_basica_150pxBerg contributed his physiological knowledge to the development of Basica, the mineral and trace element preparation, while Dr. Volkmar Klopfer, the founder of the Dr. Klopfer chemical factory in Dresden, contributed his experience in the processing of minerals. In the following advertisement from 1926, Basica is described as " a mineral preparation according to the principles of Ragnar Berg, which contains minerals of vegetables and fruits and causes the alcalescence and mineralisation of body fluids because of its composition". The first references in medical literature to Basica that are still accessible come from 1929. Thus, for example, Basica was recommended in a special imprint of the weekly medical magazine 'Die Medizinische Welt' for the alcalescence of the urine. To the present day, the basic concept of Ragnar Berg, to serve the health of the patient, which he expressed at that time in his Reform Movement, is present in nutritional medicine. The development of Basica presents an important milestone in this context.
